USA

From the documentation collected for the US women mariachi pioneers, we were able to go back historically to 1964 to confirm the first US all-female mariachi group, Las Rancheritas y su Mariachi from south Texas. This pre-dates our original data shared online on a previous website by a whole decade. During the early 1970s, several individual women musicians become the first women to work alongside the previously all-male mariachi groups. Curiously, all of these women started in the Central California coast near San Jose. By the mid1970s two more all-female mariachi groups were founded; one working in Topeka, Kansas and the other in Los Angeles, California.
